Florida 1440 Film Fiasco 2006

The Gator News team came up with a winner for this festival. Our team produced this film with hours to spare. Friday at 8pm Matthew Greenberg and I got the film guidlines. Back at my apartment we regrouped with the rest of the team; Punam, Becca, Tito, Ari, Jeff and Augie. We wrote the script idea in an hour and began filming at 10:30 pm. We ran into a couple other teams at the Skate Station rink which was one of the assigned locations. We finished filming at 4-5 pm. I slept for a few hours and immediately started editing.

The Pinnacle Albums of My Life

There are only a few albums that I really remember changing my life and felt like I should jump on the band wagon and share them.

Enema of the State by Blink-182
Probably not my favorite album by the band, Dude Ranch is my usually go to, but definitely the one I have listened to the most. Undoubtedly their break through release, I enjoy it for the simple yet catch guitar licks and the raw immaturity. These guys turned dick and fart lyrics into an art. Blink 182 songs were the first I ever played on guitar. I remember learning the bass tab to Carousel in 8th grade. At my first guitar lessons I asked my instructor to teach me Dammit and Untitled. Although these songs are from Dude Ranch, I have to give credit to Enema for sparking my interest in Blink-182 and pop-punk.

The Artist in the Ambulance by Thrice
Once I got past my whole pop-punk MTV rock phase I was ready top move onto something harder. Although not hardcore, Thrice was extreme when compared to the other music I was listening to at the time; i.e. New Found Glory, Green Day, the Offspring, Rufio, Yellowcard, Sum 41, and Good Charlotte. When I first heard the Illusion of Safety I thought the style was horrible. I never liked screaming before. Then it started to grow on me and the majority of music that I listened to in highschool was melodic hardcore or post-hardcore like Grade, Coheed and Cambria, and At the Drive-In.

Super Smash Bros. Melee

The video game for Nintendo Gamecube entitled Super Smash Bros. Melee has taken up more hours of my life than any other game combined. I love the simple controls and diverse characters. My only criticism is the unbalanced abilities of characters relatively. Some characters, like Ness or Bowser, have no chnace unless behind the hands of an extremely learned player. I wish all the characters were on a more level playing field, giving everyone a chance to be mastered. I find when playing with friends most will choose a sword or speed character, because they are the ones with the most powerfull, widespreading attacks. My chioce is Fox because of his unwieldly speed and dominating power. His up smash, on the ground or in the air, will kill and foe with 70-80% or more damage.

Wardrobe Crew

Tonight was my first night working the wardrobe crew for A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum which is being put on by the UF School of Theatre and Dance. The show opens this friday and I believe the cast and crew are well prepared. Wardrobe Crew has the pleasure of being the first to show up and the last to leave everynight. The work is not hard, just time consuming. We have to get there before the cast and check in every piece of clothing. Then we take the racks of costumes to the dressing rooms and help the actors into them. Once the show begins our part becomes a little easier, besides the quick changes and backstage assistance. In some parts of the show actors must be hand a garment immediately between scenes. In some cases we must attach a wig of robe before the next scene begins. Besides those cases we usually sit and watch, waiting for the show to end so we can get to the real fun. After the actors undress, the wardrobe crew must check out every garment and then prepare them for wash. Handling other people's sweaty underwear and dance belts is not what I got into this business for, but it is part of theatre! We finally finished up just after midnight, clocking in nearly 7 hours.

Pondering Brooks

My First Post

Nicole and Derek have inspired me to finally start a blog. Nicole has been blogging on myspace ever since the Gainesville Improv Festival which sparked her interest in Bill Arnett and his blog on the Improv Olympic page. I really wanted to start one when I saw Derek's blog, which sounds like it might focus on improv.

I have two main reasons for starting this blog; to help improve and think about improv, and to catalogue my day to day happenings with classes and the Gator News (My film production group and website). I used to keep a journal in highschool but as my time became more sparse, so did my writings. It is hard for me to find time to sit down and write. But I am on the computer everyday. Hopefully this blog can act as a digital diary and give me something more to do on the web besides facebook, or as we call it on the streets crack.

On saturday I finally finished editing the Gator News' latest film Mayde with Pimprov. The film is one of out finest works and I am proud of it. Pimprov was a blast to work with. Marz Timms contacted the Gator News through myspace almost a month before they came to Gainesville. He wanted to work with us and I was happy to oblidge.
